Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept so a response can be prepared. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the servers may automatically receive these technical details:
- Page-view times and the time spent on each page
- The referring website, when one is available
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device category
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which pages receive visits and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how parts of the website function.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which pages are useful or need improvement
- Operating the website and maintaining performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Thurston County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Thurston County Sheriff's records section, the County Clerk's case resources, and the District Court records service, along with Washington State Patrol and the Washington Sex Offender Public Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy policies, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to the information submitted through those tools. We cannot control those practices, so review the applicable provider policy before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, court systems, Washington agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy terms control. Those terms should be read before personal information is supplied.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertisements.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to:
- Advertising networks that place material on the pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners chosen to process a query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet system can be guaranteed free from intrusion, however, so absolute security and complete prevention of a breach cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its prompt deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence. Washington's Consumer Protection Act, chapter 19.86 RCW, may apply to unfair or deceptive practices. The Washington Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, governs requests to public agencies, while the Criminal Records Privacy Act, chapter 10.97 RCW, limits dissemination of some criminal-history data. Those public-record laws do not turn this private website into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor can:
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask to correct inaccurate information
- Seek a copy of personal information held about the requester
- Opt out of processing where a legal right permits it
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. Any revised version will appear here with a replacement effective date, so visitors should review the page for changes in how information is handled.
